KARST
In order to better understand Karst wines, it is important to know the specific characteristics of the Karst influence on vine growing and wine production in the district. Karst is the smallest wine district within the Primorska wine region, with only 580 hectares of vineyards, which are positioned at an altitude of 200 to 400 meters. A special feature of the Karst is the reddish-brown soil of Terra Rossa (also known as Jerina), which is formed by long-term weathering of limestone. The bora wind also leaves its unique stamp, which affects the vineyards in all seasons. The majority of winemakers in the Karst are focused on Teran production, since 75% of all vineyards are planted with the Refosco vines.
VINEYARDS
Currently, we cultivate 6 ha of vineyards located between the villages of Dutovlje and Tomaj. The vineyard’s positions, plenty of sun, sufficient rainfall and Terra Rossa soil enable the vines to thrive very well in this area. As we want to maintain the quality of the grapes, all vineyards are harvested by hand.
The farmland inside Karst district is very rare and scattered. That is why our vineyards are spread over 18 smaller plots. The scattered land definitely makes our work more difficult, which is why Karst wines have a special value.

WINE CELLAR
In 1992, we built a new cellar with a capacity of 40.000 liters, which is divided into two major parts. In the first part, there are large wooden oak barrels in which Teran matures, and barrique barrels in which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are aged. The second part of the cellar is intended for maturing young white wines in stainless steel vessels.
We also have a tasting room, which can accommodate up to 45 people. In addition to tasting first-class wines, you will also have the opportunity to enjoy Karst dried meat products and freshly baked homemade bread. OUR WINES
We are largely focused on the production of red wines, which represent 80% of all produced wine. Most of the produced wine is Teran, some Cabernet Sauvignon and varietal wine Jerina. The other 20% are white wines – Malvasia, Vitovska Grganja and Sauvignon. We also offer aromatized wine – Teran liqueur, which goes well with desserts.
